Lead/Copper Service Line Inventory Information
Service Line Inventory Project
Overview
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) in January 2021. These revisions to the Lead and Copper Rule require all community water systems took affect in October, 2024. To meet EPA and DEP requirements, the borough is currently in the process of identifying the materials of all service lines connected to its water system.
What is a Service Line?
Service lines are pipes that branch from the borough’s water mains and supply water into your home. The borough owns and maintains the water mains as well as the first portion of the service line, starting at the water main and extending to the curb stop. You own and are responsible for the portion of the service line beginning at the curb stop and extending into your home. Your service line could be constructed from lead, copper, galvanized steel, or plastic. The year your home was built could be an indicator of the type of material used for your water service line.
What We Are Asking?
The borough is asking for the assistance of all customers to identify the service line material entering their homes. This portion of pipe usually is before your water meter, which is typically located in the basement of your home, either protruding through the floor or wall. We ask that you identify the material of this portion of the pipe, take a picture displaying this portion of the pipe, email or attach this picture, and complete and return the following survey. Click here to complete the survey online In doing so, this alleviates the burden of borough employees inspecting each customer’s service line. In the coming months, the borough will be tasked with identifying and documenting the pipe material of its portion of the service line, a monumental task. If we receive the support of the community in completing this short survey, it will help the borough meet the deadline for the Service Line Inventory requirements. The borough appreciates your support.
